Instagram is one of the most popular social media apps these days, with users spending more and more time editing their photos to make sure their photos look get those coveted likes. Well the good news is there’s no shortage of apps out there that can make your photos more eye-catching and Instagrammable. Here are our some trippy apps you should definitely try out.
Huji Cam
We’re sure you’ve seen this one on Instagram as it’s been quite popular. Ever noticed those photos that look like they’ve been taken from a grainy, disposable camera complete with a date stamp from 1998? It’s been used by huge celebrities like Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian West, and Pete Davidson. Huji Cam has led to a host of similar vintage-looking filter apps such as KDPro, Kamon-Cam, KujiCam and more, but nothing beats the original.
To use Huji Cam:
- Launch the app.
- Hold the camera to your eye as you would a normal disposable camera.
- Take your photo. A small roll of film will indicate that your photo is “developing”.
- Go to the “Photo lab” and select the photo you want to save to your camera roll.
Trippy
Trippy, as the name implies, gives your photos a cool psychedelic look using a variety of filters. It uses a wide range of colors and patterns to distort your photos. Some of its filters include broken effects, acid trips and psychedelic filters. It’s perfect for any 90’s kid or 90’s kid at heart.
To use Trippy:
- Launch the app.
- Choose a photo from your camera roll.
- Select and apply a filter.
- Use the slider to adjust the filter’s strength.
- Press “Select” when you’re happy with your photo.
PicsArt
PicsArt was another trend to hit Instagram this year. It made waves when Kim Kardashian West used PicsArt to add a “sketched” overlay of herself over her photo. Before you knew it, everyone else started adding sketches to their own photos. The sketch can be resized and repositioned to any part of the photo. You can also edit the color, thickness and opacity of the sketch itself.
To use PicsArt:
- Launch the app.
- Choose a photo from your camera roll.
- Go to Effects.
- Head on to Sketch.
- Pick one of the four Sketch options.
Glitch!
Glitch! Is a fun app that makes your photos look like it’s experiencing a glitch. Best part is you can achieve this look with a click of a button. It comes with a variety of effects such as retro VHS scan-lines, vintage filter, 3D, Windows Lag, Pixel, Wave, Hacker, and Triangol. The app also lets you change the resolution and image quality of your photo. You can also use stickers to further customize your photos.
To use Glitch!:
- Launch the app.
- Choose a photo from your camera roll.
- Select and apply a filter.
- Use the slider to adjust the filter’s strength.
- Press “Select” when you’re happy with your photo.
SLMMSK
SLMMSK is also known as the “anti-selfie” app and works in real time. It has face detection capabilities that allows it to distort, cover, pixelize and transform your face into works of art. It comes with a variety of filters including Pixelization, VHS, Color Shifting, Black Tape and Inversion. Your edited photos will also come with a timestamp affixed onto it for added cool points. Although the instructions are in Cyrillic, the interface is easy enough to understand without needing English translations.
To use SLMMSK:
- Launch the app.
- Choose a photo from your camera roll or take one using the front camera.
- Select and apply a filter.
- Scroll through the options below and select either Instagram, Facebook or Save to Phone.
Prisma
Apps that turn your photos into drawings or paintings are nothing new. In fact, they’ve already kind of been played out. But Prisma offers something different. Prisma is a free photo editing app that uses artificial neural networks which “enable users to make photos appear like they were painted by Picasso, Munch or even Salvador Dali himself.”
To use Prisma:
- Launch the app.
- Choose a photo from your camera roll.
- Select an artwork from the options below.
- You can also add a “split” which looks like a before and after look.
You can change the intensity of the filter by sliding left to right
Enlight Photofox
Enlight Photofox won the Apple Design Award in 2017, making it the quintessential photo editing app for all the budding artists out there.
Its selling feature is its ability to blend photos together to create stunning effects, much like the way Photoshop uses layers. To fully utilize all of its amazing features, it’s best to watch a few tutorials to get the hang of it.
